Installation Guide
Tools Needed:
- Chain tension adjustment tool
- Socket wrench set
- Bar and chain oil
- Safety gloves and glasses
- Clean cloth
Step-by-Step Assembly
- Unpack and Inspect: Remove all packaging materials and inspect all components for damage during shipping.
- Install Guide Bar: Place the guide bar onto the mounting studs, aligning the bar with the chain tensioning pin.
- Install Chain: Place the chain onto the guide bar, ensuring cutting teeth face forward on top of the bar.
- Secure Bar and Chain: Install the bar cover and tighten the nuts finger-tight, then use wrench to secure properly.
- Adjust Chain Tension: Adjust chain tension so it snaps back when pulled away from the bar, with about 1/8 inch gap.
- Add Bar and Chain Oil: Fill the oil reservoir with high-quality bar and chain oil to the indicated level.
- Battery Installation: Insert fully charged 20V MAX lithium-ion battery until it clicks into place securely.
- Test Operation: In a safe area, test the chainsaw operation without cutting to ensure proper function.

Key Features
Brushless Motor
Craftsman's brushless motor technology provides more power, longer runtime, and increased durability compared to traditional brushed motors.
Automatic Oiling System
The automatic oiling system delivers consistent lubrication to the bar and chain, reducing friction and extending the life of cutting components.
Tool-Free Chain Tensioning
Quickly adjust chain tension without tools using the conveniently located dial, ensuring optimal cutting performance and safety.
Chain Brake System
Inertia-activated chain brake stops the chain instantly in kickback situations, providing added safety protection for the operator.
Low-Kickback Chain
Reduced kickback chain design with guard links helps minimize the risk of dangerous kickback during operation.
Battery Compatibility
Works with all Craftsman 20V MAX batteries, allowing you to use batteries from other Craftsman tools you may already own.
Safety Features Explained
Chain Brake
Automatically stops chain rotation within milliseconds if kickback is detected
Hand Guard
Protects hands from debris and provides additional barrier against chain contact
Safety Trigger
Two-step trigger requires deliberate action to prevent accidental starting
Chain Catcher
Designed to catch the chain if it breaks during operation
Right-Hand Guard
Additional protection for the right hand during cutting operations
Low-Kickback Bar
Specially designed guide bar that reduces kickback potential
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Chainsaw won't start | Dead battery, safety lock engaged, trigger not pressed fully | Charge battery, disengage safety lock, press trigger completely |
| Poor cutting performance | Dull chain, improper chain tension, insufficient oil | Sharpen chain, adjust tension, refill oil reservoir |
| Chain won't move | Chain brake engaged, debris in sprocket, damaged drive mechanism | Disengage chain brake, clean sprocket area, inspect drive components |
| Excessive vibration | Uneven chain sharpening, loose components, damaged bar | Sharpen chain evenly, tighten all fasteners, inspect bar for damage |
| Chain comes off bar | Loose chain tension, worn bar, damaged drive links | Adjust chain tension, replace worn bar, inspect chain for damage |
| No oil delivery | Empty oil reservoir, clogged oil ports, faulty oil pump | Refill oil, clean oil ports, check oil pump function |
Maintenance Schedule
- Before Each Use: Check chain tension, inspect chain sharpness, verify oil level
- Weekly: Clean air vents, inspect bar for wear, check all fasteners
- Monthly: Sharpen chain, clean oil ports, inspect sprocket
- Seasonally: Deep clean entire unit, replace worn components, lubricate moving parts
- Annually: Professional inspection, battery health check, complete maintenance
