Safety Information

Read all instructions before use. Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).

  1. PPE: Always wear safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, non-slip boots, and close-fitting clothing.
  2. Work Area: Keep bystanders, children, and pets at least 15 feet away. Ensure secure footing.
  3. Kickback Zone: Be aware of the upper quadrant of the bar tip. Do not let this part contact any object.
  4. Before Starting: Ensure chain is properly tensioned and sharp. Check for loose parts. Fill oil reservoir.
  5. During Use: Hold saw firmly with both hands. Do not overreach. Do not cut above shoulder height.

WARNING! Kickback can cause serious injury or death. Always grip saw firmly and be aware of bar tip position.

Assembly & First-Time Setup

Unpack all parts. Assembly requires no tools.

  1. Install the Bar and Chain: Place the bar over the studs. Loop the chain over the bar, ensuring cutting teeth face forward on top. Align chain with drive sprocket and bar nose sprocket. Install bar cover and hand-tighten nuts.
  2. Tension the Chain: Use the tool-free dial to adjust tension. Proper tension: chain should snap back when pulled away from the bar but not bind.
  3. Fill the Oil Reservoir: Use only recommended bar and chain oil. Fill to the line.
  4. Install the Battery: Insert a charged V20 battery until it clicks.

CAUTION! Ensure the chain brake is disengaged (front hand guard pulled back towards handle) before installing battery or starting.

Controls and Components

Main Components: Motor Housing, Wrap-Around Handle, Front Hand Guard/Chain Brake, Bar, Chain, Oil Filler Cap, Battery Release Button, Tool-Free Tension Dial.

Controls:

Operation

  1. Starting: Ensure chain brake is disengaged. Depress lock-off button, then squeeze and hold the trigger.
  2. Cutting: Let the saw reach full speed before contacting wood. Use a steady, controlled feed pressure. Do not force the saw.
  3. Kickback Prevention: Be especially cautious when the tip of the bar may contact another object. Plan your cut to avoid pinching the bar.
  4. Stopping: Release the trigger. The chain will stop immediately. Engage the chain brake for storage or transport.

Tip: For felling trees, consult advanced felling guides. This saw is intended for pruning and cutting fallen limbs.

Chain Maintenance

A sharp, properly tensioned chain is critical for safety and performance.

  1. Tensioning: Check tension before each use and periodically during extended use. Chain stretches when new. Adjust using the tension dial. Chain should be snug against the bar but pull freely by hand.
  2. Sharpening: Use a round file and guide matching the chain pitch (3/8" LP). Maintain the factory filing angle (typically 30°). File all cutters to the same length.
  3. Oiling: The automatic oiler works when the chain is moving. Check oil level frequently. Use only bar and chain oil for proper lubrication.

WARNING! Always disconnect the battery before performing any maintenance on the bar or chain.

Battery & Charging

Use only Craftsman V20 batteries and charger.

  1. Charging: Insert battery into charger. LED will indicate charging status (flashing red = charging, solid green = complete).
  2. Storage: Store battery in a cool, dry place away from metal objects. For long-term storage, charge to about 50%.
  3. Runtime: Varies based on battery capacity (Ah), wood type, and cutting technique. A 2.0Ah battery typically provides 20-30 minutes of intermittent cutting.

CAUTION! Do not charge a damaged or wet battery. Do not expose battery to fire or excessive heat.

Storage & Care

Clean the saw after each use. Store with bar cover installed.

  1. Wipe down the housing with a dry cloth.
  2. Clean sawdust from the chain area, oil ports, and cooling vents.
  3. Apply a light coat of oil to the bar to prevent rust.
  4. Store the saw and battery in a dry, locked location out of reach of children.

CAUTION! Never use water or solvents to clean the saw. Do not store with the battery installed.
