Assembly & Setup

Unpack and inspect all parts. Assemble on a clean, flat surface.

  1. Attach pole sections: Extend telescoping pole to desired length; lock securely.
  2. Install bar and chain: Place bar onto power head; loop chain around bar; ensure cutting teeth face forward.
  3. Adjust chain tension: Use tool-free tensioner to achieve proper tightness (chain should snap back when pulled).
  4. Fill oil reservoir: Use recommended bar and chain oil; do not overfill.
  5. Install battery: Insert fully charged battery until it clicks.

WARNING! Always wear safety glasses, gloves, and hearing protection. Ensure all fasteners are tight before use.

Safety Instructions

Read all instructions before operation. Failure to follow safety rules may result in serious injury.

  1. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Always wear safety glasses, gloves, long sleeves, pants, and non-slip footwear.
  2. Inspect work area: Clear area of people, pets, and obstacles. Be aware of power lines.
  3. Check tool condition: Ensure chain is sharp, properly tensioned, and oiled. Verify battery is charged.
  4. Proper stance: Maintain secure footing and balance. Do not overreach.
  5. Cutting technique: Let the saw do the work; do not force. Avoid cutting above shoulder height.
  6. Kickback prevention: Hold saw firmly with both hands. Be aware of the tip; do not let it contact other objects.

CAUTION! Never operate the saw while tired, under the influence, or in wet conditions. Keep bystanders at a safe distance.

Controls and Operation

Power Head: Safety lock-off switch, Trigger switch, Battery release button. Pole: Length adjustment lock, Auxiliary handle.

Starting: Press and hold safety lock-off, then squeeze trigger. Stopping: Release trigger.

Cutting: Position saw so chain does not contact ground or other objects. Begin cut at full speed. Use light pressure; allow chain to cut. For overhead cuts, keep saw below shoulder level if possible. Use the tip of the bar for plunge cuts only with proper training.

Automatic Oiler: Operates when trigger is pressed. Check oil level frequently during use.

Battery & Charging

Use only Craftsman 20V MAX batteries and charger.

  1. Charging: Insert battery into charger; plug charger into outlet. LED indicates charging status (red=charging, green=complete).
  2. Battery Care: Store in a cool, dry place. Do not expose to extreme heat or cold. Do not puncture.
  3. Runtime: Varies based on cutting conditions. Have a spare battery ready for longer jobs.
  4. Disposal: Recycle batteries at an authorized center; do not dispose in household trash.

Tip: For longest battery life, charge battery fully before first use and avoid complete discharge.

Maintenance & Cleaning

Perform maintenance only when tool is off and battery is removed.

  1. After each use: Clean sawdust and debris from bar, chain, air vents, and power head.
  2. Check oil level: Refill with recommended bar and chain oil as needed.
  3. Inspect chain tension: Adjust if loose. A properly tensioned chain should not sag from the bar.
  4. Check for damage: Inspect bar for wear, burrs, or damage. Replace if necessary.
  5. Clean battery contacts: Use dry cloth to wipe clean.

CAUTION! Never use gasoline, solvents, or harsh chemicals to clean. Keep handles clean and dry.

Chain Sharpening & Replacement

A sharp chain is essential for safe and efficient operation.

  1. Sharpening: Use a round file matching chain pitch (typically 5/32-inch). File each cutter at the recommended angle (usually 30°). Maintain equal filing on all cutters.
  2. Replacement: When cutters are worn beyond repair, replace chain. Ensure new chain matches bar specifications (pitch, gauge, drive link count).
  3. Bar Maintenance: Regularly flip bar to ensure even wear. Clean bar groove and oil holes.

WARNING! Always wear heavy gloves when handling chain. Ensure saw is off and battery removed.

Storage

Store in a dry, secure location out of reach of children.

  1. Clean tool thoroughly before storage.
  2. Remove battery and store separately in a cool, dry place.
  3. Apply a light coat of oil to the bar and chain to prevent rust.
  4. Store in carrying case or hang on wall mount to prevent damage.
  5. Do not store with fuel or other flammable materials.

CAUTION! Long-term storage: Charge battery to about 50% every 3 months to maintain health.
